24 Hours in Edinburgh

Autumn is here and we’re so excited for a season of cosy staycations. If you’re anything like us, Edinburgh is high on your list of must-visit spots. Want to go but not sure where to start? Allow Edinburgh resident Claire Stewart (known as @thislittlehouse over on Instagram) to give you the ultimate guide on where to explore, what to do and where to eat in this picturesque city. If you prefer a visual, head over to our Instagram to check our Claire's Edinburgh reel. Our favourite tip: visiting our brand-new RI store in Fort Kinnaird, of course.

Edinburgh's culture scene is incredible, and we’re here for all sources of inspiration. Are there any museums, galleries, or arty spots that you find particularly inspiring?

We’re spoilt here for museums and galleries, but what I love is most are free admission. My favourites are National Museum of Scotland, on Chamber Street. It’s a stunning building where you could easily spend a whole afternoon walking around. The National Art Gallery which sits on the Mound with the backdrop being Edinburgh Castle, and the Scottish Gallery of Modern Art which has beautiful grounds to wander too.

Where are your favourite parks or green spaces to kick back and read a book?

There’s only one answer for me: Princes Street Gardens. I’ve lived in Edinburgh for over 20 years and will never tire of seeing Edinburgh Castle. The gardens are vast so never feel overcrowded. I can happily sit there by myself, as a family, or with friends.

Of course, you’ve got to stop by RI Fort Kinnaird for some retail therapy! What do you think of the new store?

I love how spacious the new store is and its range of clothing! The touch screen technology in the changing rooms is amazing too. Different sizes or styles can be brought to your changing room at the touch of a button, very clever. Also, the staff are so helpful every time I’ve been in.

After a day of culture and coffee, you’re feeling peckish. Are there any hot spots for dinner you love?

You’re spoilt for choices in Edinburgh when it comes to food. Some firm favourites of mine which I keep going back to are Dishoom, El Cartel, The Ivy & Ka Pao.
